This blog is named for my debut children's novel, The Christmas Village, which I hope to have published soon. The hero of the story is 12-year-old Jamie Reynolds, whose father has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Hurt, angry and confused, Jamie fantasizes about escaping to a perfect place where nothing ever changes. His wish comes magically true when he is catapulted into his grandmother's miniature Christmas Village and 75 years back in time, to December 1932. A cast of quirky and memorable village characters takes Jamie into its heart, and he becomes fast friends with brother and sister, Kelly and Christopher Pennysworth. Jamie races against the clock as he desperately tries to figure out how to get back to his own time and his own family in time for Christmas. But at the critical moment, a shocking event throws Jamie's plans into jeopardy, and he must decide whether to follow through with his plans to go home, or to stay and help his new friends, at the risk of never going home again. On this blog, I'll post poems and stories that I've written for kids. Hope you enjoy them!

Supply & Demand - A Poem that was published in Fun for Kidz Magazine, with the theme, Fun with Business

by Melissa Ann Goodwin

I went to buy some widgets
but they did not have enough.
I asked the man who sells them
and he said, "Aw, gee, that's tough!"
He sent me to another store,
the man there said, "We will get more,
but when we do,
they will cost you,
a whole lot more than they did before!"

I did not like his answer.
I did not understand.
So I asked my friend the banker
to lend a helping he hand.
He said, "When there are widgets few,
the price goes up,
for those who do
have widgets, can demand a price
that sometimes does not seem so nice!"

Sometime a while later,
I went back to the store,
the place was filled with widgets
from ceiling down to floor.
A sign said,
"Buy one get ten free!
We've got too many widgets, see!
And now we have to sell them cheap,
because in widgets we are deep!"
